About the Artist

Lucky Smith is a passionate expressionist painter from rural South Australia, specialising in portraiture of pop culture personalities and uncanny surrealistic scenes of anthropomorphized animals. His medium is oil & acrylics on large stretched canvas, employing a mix of brushes and knives.

An avid painter from the age of six, his organically developed style has blossomed into grand and colourful artworks that fill a wall, brighten a room, and invite a crowd into vibrant conversation.

In 2022 Lucky travelled to New York to study storytelling under screen and writing lecturer Robert McKee. Lucky uses these storytelling principles to construct scenes in his artwork which empathetically explore complex interpersonal exchanges and idiosyncratic social situations, with reoccurring motifs such as anthropomorphised animals and the stylings of retro youth culture seldom failing to draw enticement.

Lucky has worked in graphic design and the film industry for over a decade, working on such significant projects as The Tourist (2020, STAN), La Brea (2020, NBC), & Desert King (2024, NETFLIX).

His work is displayed in numerous public and private collections domestically and internationally. See PREVIOUS WORKS for a gallery of past exhibitions and artworks, or the SHOP for current engaging pieces to invest in.
